About Us
Black Women in Michigan Politics (BWMP) is a non-partisan organization founded in 2019 with the mission of empowering, educating, and supporting Black women in political office. What began as a luncheon to foster mentorship and collaboration has evolved into a dynamic platform for leadership development and advocacy.
With over 200 Black women serving in elected positions across Michigan—from local offices to the state level—BWMP provides a vital space for engagement, mentorship, and policy discussions. Our dedicated committee of political leaders curates an annual luncheon where we collectively address the most pressing issues impacting our state.
In addition to supporting current officeholders, the Black Women in Michigan Politics Institute was created to cultivate the next generation of leaders, guiding individuals from high school through their journey to elected office. BWMP is committed to building a strategic pipeline of leadership, ensuring that Black women continue to shape Michigan’s political landscape for generations to come.
